That's really all I have to say about that story.

Today was a great win for the Yanks, and taking 2 of 3 from the LA Santa Barbara Encino Hollywood SoCal Newport Beach Anaheim Angels makes for an excellent weekend. Especially after they took 3 of 4 last weekend in Anaheim.

Kinda disappointed by the lack of movement at the trading deadline this year. I do think the Cubs got a steal trading Gerut for Lawton, who has a .380 OBP and is the leadoff hitter they need. Other than that, not too much happened. I knew the Sux wouldn't trade Space Cadet Manny unless they got Cameron and like half of the Mets farm system, and I also figured the Devil Dogs wouldn't get him because they are allergic to winning and having good players.

This summer (and baseball season) is flying by.....

Awesome

Finally got the iPod today.

I am very excited.

Manny the Space Cadet

As if disappearing into the Green Monster (aka A-Rod/Sheff's bitch) during pitching changes wasn't enough, I just heard another disturning item about this douche. Apparently with FuckerTrot on the DL and with various other injuries, the Sux asked Man-Ram to play yesterday night against the Devil Dogs even though he had a scheduled day off. He refused and said he wasn't ready to play. I guess when you're paying someone $20 million a year to play a kid's game it's too much to ask them to show up every day ready to play. What a joke. Why does anyone root for this guy?

Quick question for Yanks fans: Would you want Griffey in CF this year? He's having a nice year, injury-free as well. I almost got goose bumps watching that dinger he hit last night at Dodger Stadium. I personally would be in favor, even with his injury history. And that's coming from a Bernie Williams fan.

Smallville!

Before anybody asks, no. No I don't watch that show, it's on the WB. The WB is boycotted. Ick.

Nice job by the kid though.....oops, he's not a kid, he's like 33 yrs old or something. Still did a nice job for someone with 1,700 career minor league innings and not an MLB appearance since 1996.

Giambi's first HR should have been caught, at least from what the replays showed. Now I know on a difficulty scale of 1-10 that kind of a catch is an 11, but it looked like Sarge Jr. just missed it or it tipped off his glove. And his jump was poorly timed. Ok, I'm going to stop talking like I could have made the catch now.

Nice to see Jorge go upper tank.

I'm watching the A's and the LA Santa Barbara Orange County Encino Compton Newport Beach Anaheim Angels right now, and it looks to me (even though it's only the bottom of the 2nd as I type this) like Zito is back to form. He's throwing harder and his curveball is dropping off the table even more than it usually is. Not good for the rest of the AL West. If he starts to suck after this is posted I'll take the blame for jinxing him. The hippie.

Didn't take long for the Pistons to grab Flip Saunders did it?

I hope they raise that dickhead Kenny Rogers' suspension by another 10 games. What a douche.

Don't know if anyone out there is playing fantasy football this year but I have to brag about something. I scheduled an online draft and then completely forgot about it until a few days later. I assumed my team would suck. As it turns out, I had the first pick in the draft and got Peyton Manning. Yay. This will be the first time ever that I will have a better than decent QB. Maybe I'll actually be decent this year.

I wish my iPod would hurry up and get here, it was shipped last Thursday dammit! I'm getting that JBL On Stage thingy free with it too so that should be cool. I'm anxious to get a new toy to play with.

I'm sick of the SportsCenter 50 states in 50 days thing already. Enough useless side-story garbage! Get to the highlights! Get rid of it! Wait, before you do that can you fire Chris Berman or at least give him a job where he's not on TV? Franklin only has over a 12 ERA, was anyone surprised?

Aaron Small takes the hill tonight against the Rangers. It should be interesting to say the least. Hopefully he keeps them under 5or 6 runs so we have a chance, but I'm not feeling optimistic. If the Rangers had one ace in their starting 5, they would be very scary in the playoffs; since they don't, they can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

I wonder what would happen if Oakland started playing for real on Opening Day instead of mid-June?

Kind of excited for NFL training camps to open in a few days, my Bears are one of the first to open on Sunday. Maybe they'll turn things around this year. I'm assuming most of my fellow Yankee bloggers are either Giants or Jets fans, which is cool. I'm a big Shockey fan and I also still have my Vinny jersey from when he was with the Jets.

By the way Knicks fans, do you really want Larry Brown as your head coach? I gained a lot of respect for him when he beat the Lakers but gave it all back during the playoffs this past year. This is a guy who was meeting with Lebron James before PISTONS playoff games asking him about the Cavs job. That's ridiculous. Detroit should get Flip Saunders and they'll still be the best team in the East.

Savior my ass!

Ha! Other than that, judging by the highlights it looks like it was an entertaining night.

- Bobby Abreu won't be known as "the underrated Bobby Abreu" anymore. Not after he put 24 in the seats in the 1st round. And 41 total. Impressive.

- Props to Pudge for making it to the finals. I said he didn't belong even though the game is in his hometown but he did well. And by the way, you don't lose all that weight just because your diet is better. Can't even call him Pudge anymore.

- Jason Bay proved that Canada sucks. Hosers.

- I thought Ortiz would do better than he did but then again with the notable exception of 2004, the Sux usually flame out in the end anyway. So I guess you can't really be surprised with his performance.

It looks like Selig popped a boner when discussing the baseball tournament to the press. What a douche. Right now I couldn't be less excited about it, mainly because of all the injuries (especially to the pitchers) that will happen because of this. Oh well, I guess we'll see what happens.

Good day

Always a good day when the Yanks win and the Sux lose.

Was it stranger to see the A's sweep the White Sox, or the M's sweep the Angels? I say the M's sweep since the A's have been playing better as of late.

Mid-season predictions (or just some random thoughts):

- Derrek Lee will just miss out on the Triple Crown by not winning the RBI title. Carlos Lee will continue his pace because he has better hitters in front of him like Brady Clark and Rickie Weeks.

- The AL wildcard will NOT come out of the AL East. That's just a gut feeling more than anything, as the Twins and Indians are much better than the White Sox are making them look by having a big lead in the division.

- There will be 358 columns written in newspapers, magazines, and websites about how bad the NL West is. Not that I disagree.

- Barry Bonds won't come back this year. Again, more of a hunch but why would he consider it? The Giants are 37-50 at the break, and certainly will be looking to get rid of guys like Jason Schmidt, Omar Vizquel, etc. Who knows if he'll have another setback between now and mid-August and if he does there's just no reason to risk throwing him out in LF.

- Greg Maddux won't get to 15 wins for the first time since 1987. Now I hope this doesn't happen because it's a hell of a streak, but his ERA is around 5 as we speak and run support can be an issue with the Cubbies (with the exception of Sunday's game).

- Jason Giambi will have a productive 2nd half and will once again be a fixture in the Yanks lineup. I hope. At least he's on the right track.

- Someone will hit a line drive off of Curt Schilling's forehead. I hope.

- The Braves will win the NL East again. I know I know, the Nationals had a great first half, but I'm not picking against the Braves until they give me reason to, and that hasn't happened since 1990.

- The Astros will make a move to get another bat in their lineup and make the playoffs. For their sake, they better not be thinking Kevin Millar is that bat.

- The Red Sux will fold down the stretch and the Yanks will take the division. Now obviously I'm biased but even if I wasn't a Yanks fan I would still be leaning that way. The Sux had their year last year; now it's time things got back to normal.

The Yanks will win the Series. I know that it's old, dirty, and would need some fixing up before anything could take place there but I think it's a good idea. Does anyone really want to see the Derby at Comerica Park? Lots of long fly balls that would die in the power alleys, thats no fun. I want to see balls hit onto the roof or off those massive light fixtures ala Reggie Jackson.

By the way, the format this year for the Derby has got to be the worst idea ever. I like Pudge and all, and I know it's in Detroit, but he has 5 HOME RUNS THIS YEAR!!!!! This sounded like a GOOD idea to someone? And Hee Seop Choi? Are you kidding? Jones, Ortiz, Lee and I guess Teixeira are deserving for sure but this is by far the weakest lineup for a HR Derby we'll ever see. This format is not going to get people excited for the World Cup or whatever it's called anyway, just like the "This time it counts" doesn't generate excitement--at least not for me.

To be stoked or not to be stoked

Stoked: I'm finally getting an iPod!

Not stoked: Neither The Captain nor Godzilla won the final vote. I took a few days off to be with some friends and family and was away from the computer for the most part, so I've decided to come back with some random thoughts:

1. Ok seriously, fuck Tampa Bay. You KNOW George (a Tampa resident) is NOT happy about the losing to the Devil Dogs, much less the losing in general.

2. I would not be happy with the Sheffield for Cameron trade. Supposedly Cashman turned it down and I hope he did.

3. Lewis Black and Dane Cook are the funniest people alive right now. At least in my opinion.

4. What does Gwyneth Paltrow see in that Coldplay guy? No, seriously. I like Coldplay and all, but that dude is one goofy lookin MF.

5. Apparently Michael Jackson needs to be accused approximately 2,738 more times before a jury could be convinced that he is guilty. This guy makes Mike Tyson look like a nice normal human being. What a freak.

6. Wanna say good luck to fellow Yankee fan (and blogger) Karen on her upcoming job change. Hope it all works out.

7. My job sucks balls.

8. I'm excited for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. I don't care if you think I'm a dork.

9. Is anyone else watching the new Real World? This is the first one I've decided to watch since the Hawaii one. It's a guilty pleasure.

10. I hope Curt Schilling gets hit in the face with a line drive in his next rehab start. Twice.

R.I.P.

R.I.P. I think it's cool when players show a little emotion after they reach a milestone, which he did as he rounded 1st base. Well, maybe he was happy with making it an 8-run lead (or whatever it was at the time) but I doubt it. Oh yeah, it was also good to get a win.

Next person who talks about A-Rod having a chance to get 756 gets their nose broken. I don't think people who bring that up (read: ESPN, FOX Sports, Comcast SportsNet, SI.com, Chicago tribune, etc.) have any idea how many homers 355 or 356 are. How many great players have hit less than 355? Hall of Famers? Too many to count. A-Rod will be 30 years old in about a month and a half. I'm pretty sure he's got a few years left in him.

Also, enough with the Junior Griffey comparisons. A-Rod doesn't have to throw his body around at his position at much as Junior does. I know some of Junior's injuries have come on the basepaths, but if you don't think having to play center field every day had something to do with him getting hurt then you're crazy.

Ok, enough ranting. I'm happy for A-Rod, and that's that.

Frustration

Can we like, not get swept by the ROYALS please????? I know they're playing in front of the biggest crowds they'll see all year, and that they just got a new manager (who should being running for mayor in a week or two if this keeps up) but they're still the fucking Royals! This isn't 1980 or 1985, this is 2005. There's no Brett, Saberhagen, Quisenberry, Wilson, McRae or even freakin Vincent Edward "Bo" Jackson on this team. Time to get it in gear boys.

The early favorite for least shocking news of 2005 of the story of Giambi losing his Nike endorsement. How is this just happening now?

I was watching Cubs-Dodgers last night, and human deusche-bag Derek Lowe was pitching for LA. After giving up a 3-run home run to Neifi Perez in the 2nd inning to make the score 4-0 Cubs; Lowe came into the dugout after the 3rd out and threw a stool down the runway leading to the clubhouse. This resulted in a good sized gash under his right wrist. The game was delayed for 10 minutes or so the next half inning while the trainers tried to stop the bleeding so he could continue pitching. What a jackass.

Watching an ESPN SportsCentury episode on the Yanks right now, and Sparky Lyle is still bitter towards Reggie. I've been on the fence about him as a person for awhile now, due to some things I've heard from other people who've been around him. It takes a strong person to come out and say that they're seeking professional help. It takes a stronger person to come out and say they're seeking professional help when that person is the starting 3rd baseman for the New York Yankees. What I hope everyone realizes is that by coming forward with this, A-Rod will influence so many others who are struggling in their daily lives to seek help. These people will see that if someone like A-Rod, with all the money, fame, and prestige, is getting help then they can too. And that is a good thing. Thanks Alex.

By the way, A-Rod hit his 17th HR of the year tonight in the Yanks win.

Ha

Hello all,

So being that I live in the Chicagoland area, and therefore watch more Cubs games than anyone should have to, I feel a need to post this website because it gave me a big laugh (or 20).

www.latroyhawkinssucks.com

This site is hilarious, even if you're not a Cubs fan or don't follow the Cubs. it is pure genius.

By the way, I hope The Captain is ok. I think if anything if will keep him occupied and away from doing any drastic shit to the team. A move like trading for Raul Mondesi, for instance. Although if he wants to send Brown out on his ass, I won't be standing in his way. I had no idea that the Derby was so important to George. Personally I'm not really into horse racing since I don't gamble unless I'm screwing around at PartyPoker.com. And even then I don't have much luck. Apparently George paid something like $87,000 or so for the horse. Not a bad investment. That's about an inning for RJ. Either that or just retire. Or both. Whatever gets him the hell off the mound. What a joke. As much as I like Cashman, this was clearly his biggest mistake as GM, and his most expensive.

I hate when the Yanks lose, no more so than when they lose to the Sux. But losing to the Devil Dogs just flat-out pisses me off. This is an organization where the owner (or was it the GM?) is more concerned about who is using his private bathroom than about the team winning. Tampa should never have gotten a team. Florida is a football state, and also is becoming more of a basketball state because of Shaq and the Heat. It's never been a baseball state, and the old farts down there don't give a damn whether there's a team there or not.

Not to mention, I sure as hell wouldn't be excited about watching the Devil Dogs when they play in the 2nd biggest shithole (Shea Stadium is the first) in baseball. Regardless of our record the first month at least this doesn't feel like the late 80's, early 90's, when an April or May like that (or worse) would pretty much signal the end of the season. I still have hope, thats for sure.

I'm back

Took a few days off from the blog because of my disgust for the Yanks play, hopefully today was a sign of things to come.

Nice game by RJ, thats what we've been expecting out of him. I've got Vinny Castilla too, and he's doing pretty well so far, but it's hard to take a guy like A-Rod out even though he's been frustrating the hell out of me so far this year.

I wonder how many times the Braves scored 19 runs for Wright last year? He's now 2-1 despite a 10.05 ERA. Wow.

I also wonder when the last time 2 guys in one lineup (A-Rod and Tino) each had 6 RBI'S in a game. Can't remember the last time I saw that.

I'm really going to be pissed if the press (like ESPN just did on Baseball Tonight) says something about how the Yanks still gave up 8 runs. They were up 15-2 in the 5th when they gave up 5 runs. Big deal. A pitcher's mindset is completely different when he has that kind of a lead. All he's worried about is throwing strikes. I don't think any pitcher likes giving up runs whatever the scenario is, but in a game like tonights nobody's trying to be fancy on the mound when there's a 10 run lead. Just throw strikes.

I'm sure George is sitting around somewhere saying he's the reason they broke out tonight. I think it was only a matter of time with this kind of a lineup, they're too damn good to be held down for too long.

Hopefully they saved some runs for tomorrow.

Angry George!

O's 8 Yanks 4

I'm not surprised that George spoke up after this one, he didn't seem as mad as he could have been, or as mad at he has at times in the past. You had that idiot in the bullpen a couple years ago in the playoffs, and now some drunken fuck takes a swipe at Sheffield. Whether it was on purpose or not, it shouldn't happen. Keep your damn hands and arms out of the field of play. And then after everything had calmed down, they had a shot of some of the fans in that section and one of them is taking a swig from a flask. I do like ESPN, but they're singlehandedly responsible for over-hyping several stories in sports, like Yanks-Sux, Kobe vs. Shaq, anything Bonds, etc. These are big stories, but not to the magnitude that ESPN is leading you to believe.

I was watching one of those horseshit celebrity news shows since there was nothing else on, and I saw where Bruce Willis accepted some award from France for acting. He then proceeded to accept the award in french, making some sappy speech. First of all, if someone from France tried to give me an award, I'd give it back with a giant "go fuck yourself!". Secondly, by accepting that award in french, Willis reminded me of Mr. Ego (aka Schilling) and all of his smugness. Grrrrrrrrr.

Nice to see that Britney will be drinking and smoking for two now. I'm sure that it was just a "suggestion". I'm sure Steinbrenner feels good about last year and just making the playoffs, even if they didn't win the WS. Please.

He forced them to watch because he's pissed about last year (along with the rest of us) and he wants them to use that as motivation to win it all this year. I personally think putting on the pinstripes is more than enough motivation to win a WS, but if watching those fuckheads get their rings lights a fire then I won't be complaining.

Sure as hell didn't help them yesterday, that's for sure.

By the way, I agree with fellow blogger Kat that these two teams are playing wayyyy too much this early in the year. What an ass-clown.

And no, I'm not bitter about the game today;)

Forgot about Tino for a second there, my bad

I almost forgot, props to Tino on his first dinger in the Stadium since being back with the Yanks. Even though Mo's control wasn't great today, he still got the groundball he needed at the time he needed, especially after a big K on that bastard TN.

I still think it's a good sign we had the guy on the mound in the 9th in the situations that have made him a future HOF. They looked ok I thought. A-Rod looked like a jackass trying to score on Sheff's hit, and Mr. Brown hurt himself again (quite a shocker). But other than that all was well. I'm expecting big years out of A-Rod and Sheff. They need to carry this offense, and Matsui will definitely help out, he keeps improving every year. If he stays in the 4th hole all year, I'm guessing he has numbers something like this:

.290-.320 30-45HR 100-135RBI

That would be outstanding, just what we need.

Peace for now,

Jim

Trot Nixon

You are the main reason I started this blog. Not the only reason, but definitely the last straw. Who are you to to say things like that about A-Rod? You missed over 100 games last year and were barely a part of the team. You could never hope to be half the player A-Rod is, or any of the other Yankees you mentioned. You won the World Series last year, and you choose to run your mouth about someone you know nothing about. When the Yankees won, they won with class and dignity, words that are foreign to not only you and your teammates, but to most of your fan base.

Thanks for the inspiration you moron.
